Questions

The best eSIM for onboard travel in 2026.

01What is the best eSIM for trains, ferries, and buses?

HelloRoam is the best eSIM for trains, ferries, and buses in 2026 on our rubric at 8.9/10, with plans from $0.29/GB across 186 countries. It rides a local host instead of the onboard hotspot, which often drops in tunnels or over open water. Airalo (8.7/10) is the multi-country alternative. Holafly (8.3/10) is the unlimited-data alternative.

02Does onboard WiFi work in tunnels?

HelloRoam is the backup because onboard WiFi and the train's own cellular backhaul fail in the same tunnels. We publish reliability labels, not invented throughput figures. Download maps and tickets before you board.

03Should I buy a regional eSIM for a cross-border train?

HelloRoam is the scored winner for a single-country hop and still covers 186 countries if the route crosses a border. Airalo is the multi-country alternative when one regional bundle is the point of the trip.
